The tension in the space is immense. The remnants of those who have made this their home linger long after eviction. I question my right to be here. Is ownership the liberty to manipulate a space freely, a state of mind or amortgage? The skin of this building stand testament to this conflict.

Whilst one cannot intimately experience the past within these walls, we have the opportunity to glimpse at it from a few distant fleeting perspectives.

A room is blackened in a squirted release of anxiety and frustration. Dripping. Bleeding. Crying. Each inky dribble falling on and ending in its own solo path. An adjoining room, a sunlit yellow maze of connected passagesand pathways. A bird flying free, the web celebrates a romanticised view of previous inhabitants who, through their possession – gained ownership. “The bird flights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must destroy a world.” My contradiction. An archway unites the darkness and the lightness, highlighting the push and pull between belonging and owning, settling and settlement.

Both the sterilisation process and the ambition to preserve the fractured past is presented here as we massage this space back into the circulation of economy.

CBC work in progress, geometric mural,Christian Brothers College, Melbourne, 2013

This mural realises an abstraction of an element of the Christian Brothers' College St. Kilda school emblem. By translating the stars from the two dimensional logo into a three dimensional space, the mural seeks to alter the perception of the built environment through distortion of perspective.

I would like to thank Ronch, EJ, Husky, Poj, Avi and Ramon for their assistance, and Christian Brothers College, Kubic, Paintspot and Justin Architecture for their professional support.

Tunni is a Melbourne based artist who creates solo, collaborative and community-based public art and fine art projects. Stencil art, paste-ups, murals and installations are all included in the canon of Tunni's work.

In an attempt to rouse cultural dialogue and re-humanise public space, Tunni's actions, artworks and interventions are not ends in themselves, but rather they serve as a means to celebrate and react against our environments and our sense of freedom.

In 2010 Tunni completed a Masters of Public Art at RMIT, Melbourne. Tunni has been commissioned to paint a number of murals and has run creative workshops with community groups around Melbourne.

Collaboration plays a huge part in Tunni's creative process and he welcomes any interested parties to please make contact.

Stylistically, Tunni's paintings bridge impressionistic and pointillistic brushstrokes with heavy black outlines, reminiscent of his illustrated paste-ups. These works are often large scale, and include painting or mixed media.
